Help Protect Access to Air Ambulances

Every day, Americans have serious medical emergencies.  And if they live in a rural area, or they’re far from a trauma center, a ground ambulance may not be enough to help them.  So when they need it most, air ambulances can help get them the treatment they need, wherever they are.

Last year, Congress passed important law that protected Americans from surprise medical bills when they needed an air ambulance.

But now, the Biden Administration is considering a rule at the Department of Health and Human Services that will determine how much air ambulances are reimbursed for their services, and insurance companies don’t want to pay their fair share.

As you can imagine, maintaining a fleet of medical helicopters, and supporting the pilots and medics that fly around and save lives, can be expensive.  So if HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra gives insurance companies the ability to cut what they pay air ambulances, many of these helicopters will go away.

What you can do

The best thing you can do to protect your access to air ambulances is to call your member of Congress. who can contact the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services and ask them to be sure insurance companies have to pay their fair share of air medical service coverage costs.

Congress and the Biden Administration have already done so much to improve our access to emergency services.  It’s important that they keep fighting for us.
